Let Go of Resolutions and Change Your Life for Good!

New Year's resolutions are always made with hope and good intentions, yet most fail within a few short weeks. Perhaps the reason is that we are creatures of habit. Until those habits which have created the very problems we are trying to address have changed, there can never truly be freedom from our present circumstances.

As many an expert often quotes, "The definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting different results."

As we wrap up the first quarter, you may be looking around and wondering if your resolutions will ever be fulfilled. I certainly am. But I'm also determined to commit to changing from my mindset to my habits, yielding in due time a better version of myself.

"Don't give up," I keep telling myself, and it's the same message I speak to you! Let's move forward together starting by choosing and applying the principles of one of three stellar books: Make Things Happen, The Best Yes, and Living Forward. To help you choose, here are some details about each book:

Make Things Happen by Tricy Cheloni:

Synopsis from the author: “Make Things Happen in 25 talks brings practical ideas to improve your time. But it goes beyond that. It opens up amazing possibilities for inner changes and new perspectives as you connect to the Creator of time. The results are life changing!”

Time Commitment: This is the quickest read, with 25 easy-to-digest and apply segments. One “talk” every day or two is a reasonable pace to anticipate. Tricy’s style is causal and motivational. The prayers incorporated into each section are beautiful heart-cries you may want to revisit during any extra busy time of life.

Resources: Free companion book with cheat sheets, sample prayers, and tools to help you make changes stick. All that is required to claim the free book is to follow the link noted in the book and enter your email address.

The Best Yes by Lysa Terkeurst

Synopsis from the publisher: “Are you living with the stress of an overwhelmed schedule and aching with the sadness of an underwhelmed soul? Lysa TerKeurst is learning that there is a big difference between saying yes to everyone and saying yes to God.In The Best Yes she will help you cure the disease to please with a biblical understanding of the command to love and rise above the rush of endless demands to discover your best yes today.”

Time Commitment: Nineteen chapters spread easily over the span of six to ten weeks. This one takes a medium commitment of time, but is very enjoyable to read. Lysa will make you think, step on toes, be completely honest, and feel like your best friend by the end.

Resources: Free time assessment. A companion video series is also available for purchase and may be a great resources for those going through the book in a group setting.

Formats available: Kindle, Paperback, Audiobook

Living Forward by Michael Hyatt and Daniel Harkavy

Synopsis from the publisher: “Our lives are slipping away one day at a time. But what if we treated life like the gift that it is? What if we lived each day as though it were part of a bigger picture, a plan? In this step-by-step guide, authors Michael Hyatt and Daniel Harkavy share proven principles that help readers create a simple but effective life plan so that they can get from where they are now to where they really want to be--in every area of life.”

Time Commitment: Although the book contains only ten chapters broken into three larger segments, this book requires a deeper dive into our own hopes and dreams. This takes time. In fact, the authors suggest reading the book then setting aside a full day to follow the steps and make a Life Plan. While this may not be for everyone, it is a highly valuable experience, one that I followed two years ago and have benefitted from ever since.

Resources: Free online life assessment tool, templates, and time management tools. We also a have a free printable for you to use on your “Life Planning Day” available at http://www.stacysaunders.org/freebies_and_prizes/
